About Us
About Woodbine Farms
Woodbine Farms is a family-owned equestrian farm located at 9976 Liberty Road in Chelsea, Michigan. The Clapperton family has been part of the equestrian world since 1985, with operations in southern Florida, Kentucky, and Oxford, Michigan before purchasing the Chelsea property in 2008.
The Clapperton Family
Sari Clapperton started riding at age six, and Jim’s father was involved with horses long before either of them came along. What began as a deep personal love of horses became a full-time profession spanning more than four decades.
Jim and Sari built their careers importing horses from Europe and training them for the hunter/jumper show circuit in the United States. They trained multiple high-level show horses and became well known in the industry for their skill, their standards, and the quality of care they brought to every horse in their program.
A New Chapter
In 2026, Neil Clapperton took over the operation of Woodbine Farms and began steering it in a new direction. The competitive show program has given way to something more relaxed: a riding lesson program built for people who love horses without necessarily wanting to show them.
The knowledge and the standards remain the same, but the focus is different. Here, true beginners can come to learn in a comfortable, relaxed environment. Our farm is well-maintained with good horses, capable people, and plenty of room to ride.
